Lagos, Nigeria; October 24, 2016 In the spirit of celebrating polio-free Nigeria, Rotary Club of Ikeja, District 9110, has empowered 20 persons with N500,000 and free immunisation vaccine for the people of Isolo, Lagos State.

At an event, held at the Club’s Isolo Community Centre, Ile-Iwe, October 24, 2016, the Ikeja Rotary facilitated its revolutionary move to realise its vision of service to humanity as well as corporate social responsibility in the areas that contributes to sustainable socio-economic development in Nigeria.

At the event, twenty persons from the Isolo Community got a loan of N25, 000 each, totaling N500,000 to add to their businesses at no interest rate. They are expected to pay back in three months’ time so as to loan to other community members.

In appreciation to the gesture, the beneficiaries expressed happiness that the loan came at zero interest rate, thanking the Isolo Community for selecting them among the many persons who applied for the loan.

Rotarian Olaitan Ojuroye, President, Ikeja Rotary said: “this is a continuation of our economic empowerment and community development. Rotary club of Ikeja will continue to contribute to this community no matter how little. This is because we believe that little drops can make that big difference. I am happy, the beneficiaries are excited about this.”

“Ikeja Rotary Club actually built the Isolo event centre for the purpose of rentage. We plough back the proceeds into the community in the form of loans to SMEs. The process is simple. The president of Market Women Association and other influencers of the community get us names of deserving individuals; we loan them the money at no interest at all which they return in few months to be given to another set to benefit from. The loop continues,” she explained.

The month of October is another month when rotary focuses on the economic empowerment of people in communities. The first leg was in July 4, when the Club had donated gift and relief materials worth over a million naira to special Nigerians. Beneficiaries included the Nigerian Airforce Officers Wives’ Association, NAFOWA, six artisans and one disabled person.
