A University don and former Nigeria's Presidential Adviser on Energy matters, Prof Anthony Adegbulugbe, has lamented the dying love for education among the youth, saying that it portends danger for the society.

Delivering a keynote address at Orin Ekiti Day annual celebration in Ekiti state, South West, Nigeria, Adegbulugbe said communities must revive the spirit of communal brotherliness which propelled investment in education of the citizens as a panacea for dwindling interest in education.

According to him "It is sad to note that the great love of those days for education is dying. We need to re awaken this spirit in our youth of today, for the sake of our future." adding that "An uneducated generation is a threat to its own survival"

He recalled that the spirit of communal self help propelled communities in Ondo and Ekiti states in times past to provide scholarships to their brilliant but indigent citizens which he said has resulted in the high number of Professors and professionals in the states.

He recalled that the first Nigerian Professor of Mathematics ,late Prof Adegoke Olubummo hailed from the Orin community, adding "We need to create a conducive environment to produce more of Olubunmos"

Adegbulugbe , who is also Chairman of Green Energy International Ltd and member University of Abuja Governing Council stated "As we celebrate and thank God for our past blessings, let us commit ourselves anew to the spirit of communal love and brotherliness for which Ekiti people has been known for ages.It was this kind of spirit that propelled Ekiti (and Ondo communities where I come from) to invest heavily in education of the youth.Communities in those days, gave their brilliant indigenes scholarship".

He advised that part of the funds generated at the ceremony should be used to support the education of indigenes of this community.
