Humanitarian Response Committee Inaugurated In Borno State
The Borno state Humanitarian Response Committee has been inaugurated by Alhaji Usman Mamman Durkwa , Deputy Governor to ensure that humanitarian assistance being rendered are properly harnessed and managed well.
The Committee which is the umbrella body to coordinate humanitarian affairs in the state is under the Chairmanship of Alhaji(Dr) Bulama Mali Gubio mni to be assisted by Alhaji Muhammed Bello (Sardaunan Gwoza) has members draen from line Ministries under sectoral intervention to include Commissioners for Ministries of Health and Human Services, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Education, Water Resources, Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Resettlement, Women Affairs and Social Development as well as the Chairman SEMA, Zonal Director NEMA, Theatre Commander Operation Lafiya Dole, Commissioner of Policeand Director State Security Services while Mahdi Gazali, Permanent Secretary is to serve as Secretary.
The Committee is to coordinate and collaborate with Humanitarian Actors, Donor Agencies and Development Partners for high impact response, accredit and document the activities of all actors and determine who is doing what and where, liaise between the State Government and organisations on matters of humanitarian resoonse, ensure synergy between sectors and working groups towards attaining a common objective of humanitarian assistance at camps, host communities and liberated communities.
The Committee is to also provide report to the State Government as update for possible intervention as appropriate and handle any other matter that it deems appropriate for diligent discharge of its responsibilities.
In February's this year the Board and Management of the State Emergency Management Agency was inaugurated to form the arrowhead of humanitarian assistance. This was closely followed by establishing a Committee for the monitoring of feeding at the camps empanelled to ensure for the displaced people of the state.
Speaking after the inauguration , Alhaji (Dr.) Bulama Mali Gubio mni warned that his committee would not allow any organisation to exploit the vulnrerability of our people because of their predicament but assured that the committee will live up to expectation,
