Speaking at a recent press parley, coordinator of NCAP, Mr. Madu Chikwendu, warned pirates to beware, declaring that they would stop at nothing in ensuring they make the illegal business as more risky and difficult as ever before now.
He lamented the activities of pirates, saying they are reaping where they did not sow.
Chikwendu said the coalition which was formed two months ago by major copyright owners in the country including, Performing Musicians Employers Association of Nigeria, PMAN, Association of Movie Producers, AMP, Association of Nollywood Core Producers, ANCOP, Film Video Producers and Marketers Association of Nigeria, FVPMAN, Yoruba Film Video Producers Association of Nigeria, YORFVPMAN, Online Distributors Association of Nigeria, Creative Designers Guild of Nigeria among others, has resolved to take the war to the pirates' den.
Piracy, according to him, has brought the creative audio visual industries to its knee as they have no option now than to rise and fight back.
Noting that piracy comes in various forms, Chikwendu said the most popular is counterfeiting of DVD's and VCD's.
Other forms include illegal broadcast, illegal downloading and streaming, illegal exhibition and screening. Perpetrators , he said, range from the dreaded Alaba pirates to popular long distance transport companies, television and radio stations.
According to Chikwendu, who was flanked by president of YORFVPMAN, FVPMAN Lagos State chapter, Mr. Emeka Aduah, the fight against piracy would be anchored on a tripod; enlightenment, regulation and enforcement. He revealed that the coalition is on the verge of forming a national task force that would ensure there is no longer any hiding place for the pirates.
