Delta Police Arrests 19 Suspected Cultists, 3 Kidnappers

Delta State police has apprehended 19 suspected cultists who are members of the Aye Confraternity. The arrested notorious cultists have been terrorizing members of the public in Ndokwa axis of the state.

In a press release made available to journalists in Asaba, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Superintendent of Police (SP), Celestina Kalu, disclosed that, “the DPO Nsukwa Division received information that some cult members of Aye confraternity were harassing commuters along the road in Ejeme Aniogor Community”.

According to her, “Sequel to that, patrol teams from Nsukwa, Ibusa and Ogwashi-Uku Divisions with the assistance of the community vigilante mobilized to the scene and arrested eighteen suspects”, pointing out that the suspects are undergoing investigation.

In another development, three suspected abductors have been smoked out in Okpara, “following information that suspected kidnappers were sighted around Okpara Inland, detectives attached to Isiokolo Division mobilized to the scene and arrested one Saturday Oyouvwe, Samson Iroorowo and Janet Onya Akpowene”.

Items recovered from the suspects included one locally made short gun, adding that the case is under investigation.

Also, Anti-Robbery patrol team from the Area Commander’s office, Warri on duty at PTI/Eku road, intercepted a black coloured Volks Wagen car with Reg. No. Delta AG 625 DSZ with four occupants.

She said, “The team flagged the occupants to stop for a search but they opened fire on the patrol men. In the ensuing gun duel one of the suspected armed robbers was gunned down while the others disembarked from the vehicle and escaped with bullet wounds”.

Items abandoned by the fleeing criminals and recovered included one K2 rifle No. 97000 with a magazine and twelve (12) rounds of live ammunition; one G3 rifle No. 8112982, its magazine, sixteen (16) rounds of live ammunition and a Volks Wagen Jetta car Reg. No. Delta AG 625 DSZ.

She also added that investigation is ongoing while efforts have been intensified to track down the fleeing bandits.
