Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Patrick Ogoegbunem Ukah, has assured the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) of the support of the state government towards the actualization of road safety ethics on Nigerian roads.

Ukah gave this assurance while playing host to a delegation led by the Sector Commander of FRSC in the state, Corps Commander Rindom Kumven, who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, Asaba.

He also reiterated the Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa’s commitment to the safety of lives on the roads, which informed the establishment of the Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA), specifically to compliment the efforts of the FRSC, especially within the town, so as to allow the Corps to concentrate on the highways.

The state’s spokesperson further maintained that his ministry would work in collaboration with the FRSC to sensitize Deltans on the programme of the Corps through its electronic and print media, and called on the Corps to draw up enlightenment programmes which could be supported by stakeholders on road safety project to educate Deltans on road safety culture and routine.

On his part, the Sector Commander, explained that the delegation were in the office of the Commissioner to appeal for support from the ministry in the area of publicizing and sensitizing the general public on the need to inculcate road safety habits, regarding over speeding, over loading, use of old and expired tyres and non-adherence to road signs.

Kumven also hinted that the Corps was planning to set up a motorized patrol unit along the Asaba-Benin express way which hopefully would help to reduce the increased motor accidents occurring along that road.
