BEVERLY HILLS, March 10, (THEWILL) – Former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) has eventually admitted that he sired 48-year old Jack Musa, who was born to him by the late Mrs. Edith Ike-Okongwu, at the peak of the Nigerian Civil War. He however pleaded for the privacy of the matter to be respected.

This came after several decades of legal tussle over the exact paternity of Musa, who recently returned to Nigeria after spending about 23 years in an American prison. Musa Gowon and his late mother were in court for many years to press for his paternity to be established.

In a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, the ex-military ruler said, “Following years of doubts and speculation, a DNA test was recently conducted to ascertain the paternity of Musa Gowon who recently returned to the country. The results of the tests were conclusive and they confirm his paternity. We, the family, are working to assist in his rehabilitation following a very difficult period in his life. As we look forward to the future with faith in God, we request that our privacy be respected. Thank you.”

Musa Gowon was born to Miss Edith Ike in 1968, when Gowon was the military ruler of the country and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. Mrs. Edith Ike-Okongwu later died of cancer with Gowon shown on television visiting her in hospital just before she passed away.
