By Tom Garba, Yola

Mr. Umar Nakendewiri, Executive Director, Adamawa Sports Council, on Tuesday said that the departments required N20 million for the hosting of sports festival in the state.

Nakendewiri made this known in an interview with our correspondent in Yola.

He said that the festival subcommittees would require funds for logistics and purchases of materials for the festival.

He said that the council would constitute six sub-committees which would coordinate activities during the festival.

The executive director said that the state hosted the event last in 2011 during former Gov. Murtala Nyako’s administration.

``The entire sports festival requires N20 million for the successful hosting of the event. The council normally constitutes sub-committee such as media and publicity, medical committee, ceremony committee among others. Each of this committees is expected to make their own budget, but I believe that N20 million will be okay for the festival.’’

Nakendewiri said the council has already proposed May 2nd to 6th in 2016 for the festival.

He added that the event would assemble local athletes who would display their talents as well as attract other clubs outside the state.

He commended Gov. Jibrilla Bindow for his love for sports, adding that at the inception of the administration, he sought to review the contract for the construction of Yola sports complex.

He added that with Bindow, sports would resign in the state, calling on lovers of sports not to relent in supporting the sports in the state.
