Mubi ASUP Vows To Employ Dialogue In Resolving Problems With Management

The newly elected executive of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) of Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, in Adamawa, has promised to pursue dialogue in resolving any problem with the school management.

Mr Kabiru Mohammed, the newly elected Chairman of the union made this known at his inauguration ceremony in Mubi.

Mohammed said that the cardinal objective of the union was to protect its members against issues of victimization, rather than engaging in unnecessary squabbles with the management.

He noted that the current trend of unionism was to engage management of institutions on dialogue to address some salient issues that could affect the productivity of the members.

Mohammed, who was a former national president of ASUP said that the union under his watch would not fight the management as perceived in some quarters.

He however, called on the management to do the needful to prevent constant disagreement and squabbles.

``I want to believe that nobody is taken this mantle of leadership to fight the management or to fight anybody.

``But our rights as members of this community must come to us.

``On our part, we will not be leaders of family and friends at the detriment of our members.’’

Mohammed called on his fellow executive members to abide by their oath of office.

He called on the aggrieved members to support the new leadership to achieve the goals of the union.

``To us, there is no victor, no vanquish, the issue is not about personality but the union.

``As intellectuals, even if one has been offended in the course of the electioneering process, I seek for forgiveness.

``I want to assure you that we will protect our members as welfare of our people is paramount and I will also assure you that I will not compromise the vision of the union for my personal gains.

``I also advice my colleagues to take the oath of office they have just taken very serious especially as we concluded by saying so help me God, rather than of so help me management.

In his remark, Dr Stanley Stephen, the outgoing chairman commended the members of the union for conducting a hitch free election.

Stephen urged them to unite and support the new leadership to succeed, adding that it was when there is a crack in the union that external interest would prevail.

He called on the management to cooperate with the new leadership to address issues of welfare, especially as it borders on promotion of members.
