NGO Supports 514 Internally Displaced Households In Adamawa

An Abuja based Non Governmental Organization, Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has supported 514 households of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Adamawa.

Mr. Odiahi Peter, the Emergency Management Coordinator of the organization made this known Sunday at the presentation of relief materials to some households in Michika local government area of Adamawa.

Peter said that the gesture was part of effort by the organization to assist returning IDPs as the pick up their lives once again.

Peter explained that the organization with the support of the United Nations Foods and Agriculture organization (FAO) had provided the IDPs with various agro food processing machines to improve their livelihoods.

According to him, ADRA as an International NGO has been working in partnership with United Nations Foods and Agriculture organization (FAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in providing humanitarian services to displaced persons in the seven local government areas worst affected by activities of boko haram in Adamawa.

“The project targets most vulnerable persons in Communities especially widows, widowers, women headed households and child headed households whose livelihoods were destroyed during the insurgency.” Peter said.

He advised the beneficiaries of the NGO's support in training, equipments and funds to utilize the opportunity provided them to establish themselves through micro businesses.

Speaking at the occasion, Executive Secretary of Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA), Alhaji Hamman Furo, lauded ADRA for its intervention and urged beneficiaries make good use of the opportunity provided.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr Haruna Zira, thanked the organizations for what he described as timely support which he said would go a long way in improving their lives.

Its reports that materials distributed to some households at the occasion included bags of grains, sewing machines, grinding machines, oil extraction machines and spaghetti making machines among others.
