Close to 70 Kenyan higher education institutions will launch the Kenya Green University Network (KGUN) — a collaborative project of the Commission for University Education (CUE), the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The new platform will help universities to incorporate environmental and sustainability aspects in their curricula and campus operations. It will also promote enhanced student engagement and assist universities with their performance contracting reporting requirements. Following the adoption of the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement on climate change last year, KGUN will provide a platform for Kenyan higher education institutions to play their part in these global processes, including by devising low-carbon strategies and mainstreaming environmental sustainability across the curriculum.
