Canoe Disaster Records Deaths

One person is now dead after a canoe conveying two people capsized at the Down Yenagoa Creek in the state capital.

The tragic incident which took place on Saturday morning in the new year left its victim, Mr. Nwani Nnamdi, dead before he could be rescued.

We gathered that the canoe sank after it was confronted by waves caused by a passenger speedboat that drove by as it was crossing to the other side of the creek.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident, said the deceased, who is now lying at the Federal Medical Centre morgue, hailed from Ebonyi State, and was 27 years of age.
