200 Akwa Ibom youths to acquire skills in power sector

The Akwa Ibom State Government has sponsored 200 youths from the state for a one year training at the National Power Training Institute, Abuja, where they will acquire skills in power generation, distribution and maintenance.

Addressing the youths before their departure at the Government House, Uyo, Governor Udom Emmanuel charged them to justify the huge investment on them and make the best out of the training.

He explained that the programme which was designed to train them on power generation, distribution and maintenance, was an initiative of the Federal Government meant for 100 participants per session and that he decided to increase the number to 200 to open up more opportunities for indigenes of the state.

The governor had in another development promised to implement free and qualitative education policy that would help every Akwa Ibom child stand out among his contemporaries anywhere in the world.

Emmanuel, who was the guest speaker at the 8th Teachers' Award for Excellence in Akwa Ibom State Public Secondary Schools, organised by Inoyo Toro Foundation in Uyo,  announced plans to establish 10 model secondary schools in the 10 federal constituencies of the state.

He said the institutions, when established, will address the basic educational needs and develop talents that would enable every Akwa Ibom child to rise and achieve his full potential.
