By United Nations (UN)

The United Nations systems in Tanzania cordially invites the media to the launch of 2015 Technology and Innovation report (TIR) subtitled: Promoting Innovation Policies for Industrial Development,.. The launch will be held at Centre for Foreign Relations ( Chuo cha Diplomasia —CFR-), along Kilwa Road, Kurasini on Thursday, 17 December,2015,at 0900-1100AM.

The Report is published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development ( UNCTAD), and focuses on how innovation policies can promote industrial development, and what lessons can be learnt from both developing and developed countries. It argues that while technology and innovation are essential to how industries use knowledge, their role in economic development can only be harnessed if innovation policies are coherently linked to countries' industrial goals.

Tanzania is one out of the 3 countries that have been taken as case studies in the report. Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH) contributed to the preparation of this report and the facts presented in it would provide evidence based inputs to national plans and strategies to achieve the much needed sustainable development. UN Resident Coordinator Alvaro Rodriguez will launch the report.

The UNCTAD Technology and Innovation Report of 2015 recognizes that sustainable industrialization is multi-faceted: it is not solely limited to environmental sustainability, but refers to efforts that are technology-led, productivity enhancing and poverty reducing. It is based on the understanding that no industrial policy is complete without an accompanying innovation policy. Both are essential and complementary to shaping developmental outcomes and creating prosperity for all. TIR 2015 addresses policy priority by analyzing the crucial role of technological learning and innovation capacity.
