Launch Of Lafferty World Series Of Business Games
LONDON, 15 December 2015 – Lafferty Group today announced the launch of Lafferty World Series of Business Games, an online business game for cards and payments professionals.
The first tournament will start in March 2016, running over a number of weeks. The game is designed for teams to be able to participate around existing work and personal commitments – played remotely via online submissions competing against teams from around the world. Each team is guaranteed to play in the qualifying competitions in their national leagues.
The leading qualifying teams will then be invited to compete in the final series in London later in the year, for the chance to be crowned Lafferty World Series Champions.
The interactive cards and payments game challenges teams to build and grow a successful cards business in a simulated world that is constructed using Lafferty's World Cards Intelligence database, reflecting industry changes tracked by Lafferty across the cards and payments landscape.
“There’s a demand for business games now in the cards and payments area because cards are back and along with that resurgence comes a big opportunity,” said Lafferty Group COO Rónán Lynch. “With these business games, teams can test themselves against other players, using fictionalised real-world data in real-world conditions – and the upside is that there’s no money at risk. So even teams that don’t win at a national or international level are not going to lose anything. And everyone will get to learn from the winning teams.”
Lafferty Group is running the games in partnership with Optima Consultancy, which has deep industry experience of operating real models for schemes, banks, payments and telecoms businesses.
“There’s no better way to learn than to get practical experience,” said Optima’s founding director, Mark O’Keefe. “The next best thing is to play in a realistic simulation, testing yourself against a global base of peers. Each team will have to play against the situation they face, analysing and reacting to the conditions of the market and the actions of their competition.”
David Hickey, head of retail banking and cards and payments research at Lafferty Group said cards were back. “Growth has been across the world,” he said, “with strong growth in established markets including the UK and the US. China has been a global engine of growth, with Indiashowing great potential.”
