BEVERLY HILLS, December 14, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Guild of Editors, NGE, has called for a thorough investigation of media executives alleged to have received billions from the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), even as it criticized attempts by the Senate to gag the press and impinge on freedom of expression.

The group stated this Sunday, after its fourth quarterly standing committee meeting in Abuja, in a communiqué signed by the NGE President, Garba Deen Mohammad and Secretary-General, Victoria Ibanga.

AIT, THISDAY and at least 10 media outfits received at least N3 billion from the office of the NSA in controversial payments months before the general elections.

“The Guild calls for thorough investigation into the circumstances leading to the involvement of some media executives in the payments from the office of the former National Security Adviser in the interest of fairness and justice,” the communiqué obtained by THEWILL said in part.
