NEMA Organizes Three Days Training For Journalists In N/East

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Alhaji Sani Sidi has organized a three days workshop for Information Officers and Journalists in the North East on Media reporting skills and enhance media relation strategy aimed at disaster management posed by boko haram insurgents.

The Workshop which was declared open on at the Barwee Hotel in Maiduguri attracted many working Journalists in the region who brainstormed on how to effectively help offer humanitarian services to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) and other victims as well as assist in saving lives and property.

The NEMA DG who was represented by the Zonal Coordinator of the Agency in the North East, Alhaji Mohammed Kanar in his opening remark said, the essence of the workshop is to educate and sensitize Information officers and Journalists who report emergency management/Disaster curtailment activities within the north east region.

He explained that, while it is important to report disasters and interventions, information managers must balance their story(s) to ensure that the right victims are reported.

The NEMA Boss reiterated that media practitioners including information officers must put into consideration the mandate of the agency and the need to keep the public informed anytime they report stories.

"This workshop is expected to help enhance media reporting skills during emergencies using enhanced media relation strategy.

"It is in this light; NEMA is organizing this workshop to ensure that information managers are abreast with activities of the agency especially in rehabilitation of victims of Boko Haram and planned reconstruction of destroyed communities so that they can effectively keep the public better informed". He stated.

He therefore urged all participants to utilize the benefit of the programme and appreciated stakeholders support and cooperation in their joint efforts to provide succour to millions of displaced persons affected by the insurgency.
