Group Frowns At Campaign Of Calumny Against SGF

By Jerry Emmanson, Abuja

The Centre for Social Justice, Equity and Transparency has roundly condemn what it considers serial campaign of calumny against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Babachir Lawal by some faceless groups from Ebonyi State.

The Centre which prides itself as the harbinger of social justice in the society issued a press statement lamenting the growing level of mushroom organizations in Nigeria who spring up overnight to castigate the reputation of well meaning patriots who take up responsibilities to save the nation of our common patrimony.

The statement issued in Abuja by its Executive Director, Public Service, Anthony Kola, the centre said it has become necessary to call the persons behind such campaign of calumny to order, insisting that such action will continue to discourage people from serving their fatherland if we continue to destroy the hard earned reputation that some persons have built for themselves over a long period of time.

“The Secretary to the Government of the Federation is one man who has performed all his responsibilities with God and humanity at heart; his recent confession that a certain Governor gave him money during his thanksgiving service in Abuja doesn't in any way indict him to be a corrupt Nigeria.”

According to the statement, his acceptance in the open glare that financial support was given to him adds value to the numerous qualities seen by President Muhammadu Buhari to empower him to serve in that office which we are all proud to associate with.

It described the allegations against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation as a very disgusting attack on his fundamental human rights, though public officers are answerable to the people, we must still implore decorum in handling it.

“It is therefore disheartening for some mischief makers to go to the street with his image and reputation to score some cheap political goals knowing well that no one can bend his principles.”

“The President was in the first place not wrong about his choice, the SGF has so far demonstrated to be at home with the workings of that office and we implore these elements to desist from dragging his name to the mud,” the statement said.
