' I Thought Private Universities Were A Piece of Cake' 2015 Valedictorian At Crescent University, Abeokuta
The best graduating student at the 7th convocation of Crescent University, Abeokuta, Miss Oyinkasola Fagbohun has dismissed that private university certificates are cheap. In her valedictory speech, she noted that " I was one of those who always thought private schools were a piece of cake but to my surprise it wasn’t like that. In fact, it was not a business as usual here".
The 20-year old Fagbohun led 434 others from Colleges of Information and Communication Technology, Natural and Applied Sciences, Social and Management Sciences and Environmental Sciences to emerge as the 2015 best graduating students, winning the vice chancellor's prize, college prize and departmental( Economics) prize respectively.
She said parting words of advice from her secondary school principal armed her to be successful in her future academics, observing that "Our principal then, Mrs T.O. Amune charged us to identify whom we were and our God-given potentials. She inspired us to seek relevant education or knowledge required to achieve our purpose. She also injected in us to be focused and avoid distractions while pursuing our vision prayerfully and purposefully and our visions and dreams would be achieved".
Fagbohun acknowledged that Crescent University had "empowered us with skills and knowledge in our various areas of study that will enable us compete favourably with graduates of other institutions in the task of nation building".
Recounting her experience, Fagbohun related that she the first convocation she witnessed, she was an usher. She said "I recall seeing the valedictorian giving his speech, I remember saying to myself that it must be nice to be up there addressing people on a joyous occasion as this; though I never thought I would be the valedictorian of my set, it was always nice to dream and pray I would emerge the best graduand and I am glad, that is the case today."
Asked about her study time and happy moments, Fagbohun said " I read anytime but I really study when I want to lead a study session either with the entire class or discuss with a classmate. I am happy when I read either solving a calculus question or reading a novel
