The Signing of the South Sudan Agreement mediated by IGAD and Others (Statement by Foreign Press Secretary Kawamura)

TOKYO, Japan, September 2, 2015/African Press Organization (APO)/ -- 1. The Government of Japan welcomes that an agreement on the resolution of the conflict in the Republic of South Sudan has been signed by the relevant parties, under the mediation of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the countries concerned. The Government of Japan also highly appreciates the efforts that IGAD and the countries concerned exerted in bringing about this agreement.

2. The Government of Japan hopes that all the parties in South Sudan will engage in nationbuilding so that the people of South Sudan can enjoy a stable society as soon as possible.

3. The Government of Japan intends to continue supporting South Sudan's efforts to achieve peace and stability.
