MAUTEC Honours Former NLC President For DDLS

The Governing Council of Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTEC), Yola has conferred Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa) on the former Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) president, Comrade Ali Chiroma.

Chiroma was the first northerner to be elected NLC president between 1984 to 1988.

He will clock 83 in February next year and is still a Comrade, indefatigable, humble and caring leader, who started his trade union career in 1950, and rose to be President of the Rural Health Workers Union.

A letter signed by the Vice- Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kyari Mohammed dated on 21st July, 2015 and addressed to the former NLC boss in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, a copy which was made available to our Correspondent say ", the conferment of the award was in recognition of his tremendous contributions to the nation and humanity."

The formal ceremony which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 15th August, 2015 at the University Convocation Square on the main campus seeks Chiroma's consent to enable the institution proceed with necessary preparations for the award.

The letter reads in part; " It is my honour and privilege to inform you that the Senate and Council of the University have, in recognition of your tremendous contributions to the nation and humanity, decided to confer upon you Degree of Doctors of Letters (Honoris Causa) of MAUTEC, Yola.

" The purpose of this letter is to seek your consent to enable us proceed with necessary preparations for the award". The VC said.
