Saro-Wiwa Suffered Two Kinds Of Injustice
Says Dr. Goodluck Diigbo, OCIA President
“Ken Saro-Wiwa and the Ogoni people have suffered two kinds of injustice – the injury itself, and the pretense by some Nigerians who do not see the injury inflicted on us,” said Dr. Goodluck Diigbo, President of Ogoni Central Indigenous Authority.
In a statement to welcome the renaming of Rivers State Polytechnic, Bori as Ken Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic, Diigbo lauded Governor Nyesom Wike for his “display of sensitivity.”
“To be sensitive, is to seek peace, and not a sign of weakness,” Diigbo said.
“Ironically, we have suffered these injustices, while trying to protect our people, and defend other Nigerians who share our fate,” said the OCIA President.
Diigbo said “Wike could change the course of history in Nigeria, if while in office, and at the end of his own tenure, he stands with all peoples; fighting for their freedoms and rights - Ogonis and non-Ogonis.”
“It will be recalled that the Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said in a statement in Port Harcourt, July 9, 2015 that he renamed the Rivers State Polytechnic in Bori as Kenule Beeson Saro-Wiwa Polytechnic in honor of Saro-Wiwa’s monumental achievements and legacies.”
“The memories of avatars like the late Saro-Wiwa, who fought selflessly for the betterment of society and humanity, should not be consigned to oblivion, more so, when such personalities are revered beyond the shores of the country,” Wike said in the statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Sir. Opunabo Inko-Tariah.
