Daniel Onjeh…..Best Choice As Buhari’s Minister Of Youth Affairs
.....We Must Be That Change We Seek In Our Generation
Nigerian Presidential elections has come and gone. Expectations are high as well as the stakes. Right within us rises a lot of storms both as individuals and as a nation but those who put their trust in the heavens can weather all Storms. Nigeria as a nation is passing through most difficult times in her evolution, from state engineered corruption to bad choices and through segregation.
Terrorism, insecurity and fall in Oil prices.Money borrowed from the IMF and Paris Club for capital projects that disappeared, lack of transparency in democracy and failure to pay our patriots the salaries they earned and electing unqualified persons into positions of trust to fix already dilapidated structures. This definitely calls for sober reflections and a time for us to start asking the right questions. IT’S TIME TO MAKE HARD CHOICES
I am Nigerian, my Political Philosophy is justice and Social integration and my party is the PDP. But Nigeria as a nation supersedes all our individual Philosophies and party affiliations. If we are to fail as a nation,it does not matter which party was involved or which ideology was supreme. History does not remember failed parties, history only remembers FAILED NATIONS. Ex- President Goodluck Jonathan has tasked all patriots and Nigerians to support the Government of Muhammed Buhari for this important task of nation building and it’s time to sheath our Swords and build this nation like we have done through these years, bit by bit and block by block
The important task of democracy isdone by everyone. My immediate constituency is the Youth Constituency and as such my contributions to National reconstruction will be much appreciated within this constituency to say the least
As we seek a horizontal change in the polity, the change we yearned and voted for, the change we all aspire to see in our great nation, where progress and equal opportunities will not elude the common Nigerian on the street.Where our Government houses and Public institutions will not only be revolving doors for the rich and well connected but an open cup of opportunities where every Nigerian can drink from this spring of Progress and prosperity, therefore it is very important that we don’t make the same mistakes our predecessors made.…WE CANT GO BACK TO EGYPT
A formidable youth constituency will usher a wind of consciousness that will change the psychology on Nigerian youths forever.I have been a Youth leader both in Nigeria and abroad for more than fifteen years spanning from students activism, youths movement and National Party politics and I can assure that of all the eligible hands in the APC to steer the Nigerian youths Constituency,Vis-à-vis the Ministry of Youths Affairs, there is no one Living or dead greater than Comrade Daniel Donald Onjeh. There is no one intellectually gifted, more selfless or more equipped with the vital tools to solve youth’s restiveness in Nigeria more than Daniel Onjeh
I first met Daniel Onjeh sometime before 2002 when he was the Zonal Co-ordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students NANS Zone A. He was then a student of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Our paths crossed again after the NANS National Convention of 2002 as we both contested and won positions into the National Executive Council of NANS. While he became the President, I was elected the National Sports Director. It is worthy of note that while we served and later graduated from school,Daniel Onjeh was suspended from school barely few months after our election. His sin was that he was bold enough to speak against the school authority of FUT-Minna over the police brutality and eventual death of a young female student named Fumilayo. I will never forget this name in my life because it was also the day we were nearly buttered like wild Pigs by Boko Haram Cousins named YANDEBA at Minna for speaking out for and on behalf of the students of FUT-Minna
Daniel Onjeh rose to become one of the most respected and celebrated NANS President in Nigerian Students History. He was the first and the last President that secured a NANS secretariat at Wuse, Abuja. He was the first president that introduced IT-Consciousness in Students movement by the introduction of website and other interactive tools between the student leaders and the students. He was also the first President that fought Cultism to a standstill by bringing the NANS National convention to Eagle square Abuja.
Daniel Onjeh is the only President in NANS Hall of Fame that tried to stop violence and cultism in schools. He organized an unprecedented ALTERNATIVE TO VIOLENCE PROJECT WORKSHOP for all Youths and Students Leaders from the length and breadth of the Nation to the 8th All Africa Games(COJA) at Abuja in 2003.Daniel Onjeh fought for the provision of Nigerian Youths and Students at the Commonwealth Youths training Programme during the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting (CHOGM) and ensured that Nigerian youths and students were trained on responsible leadership. When all theseyouth’s leaders hovering around the Presidency at the moment were scampering away from responsibility,it was Daniel Onjeh who took all the bullets.Even in Prisons and out of prisons for the sake of Youths cause, which he had the unfortunate experience of observing,he took absolute responsibility and showed uncommon bravely through trials and tribulations
His struggles in the fight for justice for Nigerian students lead to his eventual expulsion from the University of Technology Minna. Daniel Onjeh bounced back with a book titled SEED OF UNITY……MUTUAL TRUST, forgiving those who erroneously expelled him from school and fled to the University of Ghana where he not only graduated but was also elected the First President of the West African Students Union in Accra
On coming back to Nigeria, while most of us were already partisan Politicians in PDP, Daniel onjeh opted out for the ANPP. when I eventually saw him in 2008 and asked him why,his only response was that we cannot use an illegality to enthrone a legality that he will never be in a political party that has no programme for Nigerian Youths….I then left him and wish him God speed
Daniel Onjeh kept his promise and took a shot at the Senate in Benue Senatorial Zone in 2011 under the ANPP and lost. He repeated this courage again in 2015 with the APC against the incumbent Senate President of which the case is still in the Tribunal. There is only one person in the youth constituency who can take a shot against an incumbent Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, that person can only be Comrade Daniel Onjeh
While depositing my case,I want to point out here that I am PDP and never had been APC for many reasons best known to me.But Nigeria must have to move forward. If we seriously desire change we must look for the best hands to effect this change. And as a participant in the youths Politics of my great country Nigeria than spans more than a decade and half,I can boldly say that if there is a Political youth Leader in Nigeria that I am not aware of, then that Youth Leader has not been born and if we must look for the best to impart a positive orientation and consciousness in our youths, there is no better person to fix this problem for us than COMRADE DANIEL DONAL ONJEH
