Prince Eze Madumere Athletic Champion Begins July 15

Prince Eze Madumere, the Deputy Governor of Imo State over weekend endorsed the proposed Prince Eze Madumere Athletic Championship due for July 15, 2015.

Speaking in his office, Prince Madumere said his resolve to champion programme that promotes athletics predates his entrant into politics.

He made this statement when the organizing committee of Prince Eze Madumere Athletic Championship led by Uche Lebechi paid a courtesy to him.

He emphasized the importance of sports in the society as he maintained that it brings about unity and love among the people in the community and the nation at alrge. His words: “the importance of sports cannot be over emphasized. This is one event that unites us. Beyond its glorious attachments, it promotes healthy living and serves as a career to the athletes and others in various sporting activities.”

Recalling his experience over twenty years ago when there were skirmishes in his community, he said he used Prince Eze Madumere unity cup to unite the youths, which created room for peace accord, which everyone enjoys today.

While expressing optimism that the forthcoming event will be a world class event with high standard, he believes that it will produce more talented young stars that will make the State and Nigeria proud in the nearest future.

He therefore commended Mr. Uche Elebechi and committee members for electing to organize such a huge championship, which will specially feature track and field events.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the committee and sponsor of the event, Mr. Uche Lebechi hinted that the event, which will be hosted annually will kick-start on July 15, 2015 at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. He said athletes will be drawn from various schools in the twenty seven local governments of Imo State.

He said the choice of Madumere as name boarders on his exemplary leadership qualities through hard work, humility and years of effort towards empowering Imo youths noiselessly. He also added he is embarking on the event to pay back to the society that made him. He said athletics took him round the world during the military era. He therefore pledged to work in partnership with great minds to help other budding athletes discover their talents.
