Nigeria’s Fly Eagles have qualified for the round of 16 of the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup after commanding performance versus Hungary on Sunday.

The Flying Eagles posted  a comfortable 2-0 victory against the Hungarians.

Coach Manu Garuba kept faith with the team that beat North Korea with no place for stars Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon

Nigeria, after the first-game loss, was condemed to win to finish second in Group B and guarantee passage to the second round.

Nigeria fast rising star Taiwo Awoniyi netted his first goals of the tournament.

The big striker had been impressive before Sunday’s game, bagging two assists in the 4-0 win over North Korea, but the centre forward needed to score his own goals.

He eventually got his first of the tournament when he latched on to a cross from the right and stabbed home from close range in the 33rd minute.

Nigeria started slowly, but by the time Awoniyi scored, they were clearly in the ascendancy and victory was never in doubt.

The Flying Eagles got the second goal they fully deserved nine minutes into the second half, Awoniyi profiting from a long punt by goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo.

The striker controlled the ball with his first touch, took out the defender on him with a feint, rounded the keeper, then slotted into an empty net.

The Nigerians will face Group F winners Germany on Thursday at 8.30am Nigerian time for a place in the quarter-finals.
