Jonathan sacks IGP Abba, appoints DIG Arase

President Goodluck Jonathan has on Tuesday sacked the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba.

The sack which was announced by the Presidential Media Adviser, Dr. Reuben Abati, is with immediate effect.

Abati, who announced this via his Twitter handle did not give reason(s) for the sudden sack, few weeks away to the end of Jonathan's administration that appointed him.

According to the tweet, Abba has been directed to handover to the Deputy Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase.

'President Jonathan sacks IGP Suleiman Abba, appoints DIG Solomon Arase as Acting IGP with immediate effect,' Abati tweeted.

Until his appointment as Abba's replacement, Arase was the Head of the Force Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.

Mr. Arase holds Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Law as well as Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Political Science and Strategic Studies. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Defence College.
