…To Formally Defect From LP To APC
SAN FRANCISCO, April 06, (THEWILL)  – There is great excitement in Urhobo land as news filtered in that the Labour Party Governorship candidate for Delta State, Great Ogboru, has finally stepped down for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Olorogun O'tega Emerhor, as a result of the intervention by some powerful Urhobo elders under the auspices of the Urhobo Progressives Union (UPU).

According to a statement from the O'rtega campaign to THEWILL on Monday, the UPU had earlier set up a powerful committee to persuade Ogboru to jettison his ambition for the top job in the general interest of the Urhobo Nation in particular and Delta State in general.

The campaign further said that the move finally paid off at about 3:45pm on Monday as Ogboru announced his decision to step down for Olorogun O'tega in the spirit of Easter.

The announcement was said to spark off wild jubilation across Delta State, especially in Delta Central over this wonderful political landmark achieved by the Urhobo ethnic nationality.

With the latest development, Ogboru is expected to defect from the Labour Party to the APC within the next couple of days, the statement said. ‎

Ogboru and Emerhor are also expected to address a joint press conference to chart the way forward and to urge the LP party faithful and Ogboru supporters to throw their weight behind the APC and Emerhor during April 11 governorship election in the state, the O'rtega campaign added.

With this development, the Delta state governorship race is now clearly between Ifeanyi Okowa, the candidate of the PDP, who is from the Delta North senatorial district and ‎O'rtega of the APC, who is from the Central Senatoria district.
