The Special Adviser, Media, to the Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Jerry Needam has blamed Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi for the deplorable state of Kono Secondary School, Kono, in Khana Local Government Area of the state.

Needam who was speaking as Chairman on the occasion of the school's annual inter house sports competition on Saturday, described the situation as alarming, saying it is one of the Governor's underdevelopment agenda for Ogoniland.

Jerry Needam who is also the Publisher of National Network newspaper, lamented that the school which had existed for 35 years, still lacked basic facilities and conducive atmosphere for learning.

He praised the staff and students for their courage in the face of what he called government induced challenges.

The State PDP Chairman's media aide however charged them to take solace in the fact that a new government was on the verge of emerging in Rivers State that would be headed by Chief (Barr) Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike who, according to him, would put smiles on their faces.

“Wike is not and cannot be like Amaechi who not only hates Ogoni people but hates education. Wike is a friend of the Ogoni and he loves education as attested by his strides when he served as Supervising Minister of Education” he said.

The publisher told the crowd that their desired school and good learning environment could only be achieved through support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“One thing I beg of you is, collect your Permanent Voters Card and when you go home tell your parents and your siblings who are also of voting age to go and collect their PVCs. On Election Day, vote for PDP and also tell them to vote for Goodluck Jonathan for President, Nyesom Wike as Governor of Rivers State and all PDP candidates” he implored.

Needam who pledged cash prizes and trophies for the first, second and third placed houses in the competition, also promised to replicate the gesture in the coming years.

Earlier in his speech, the Principal of KSS (Junior Secondary), N.N. Yorbe made a heart rendering revelation of how staff and students of the school risk snake bites and other dangerous animals to defecate at nearby bushes due to lack of toilet facilities.

The Principal who thanked his colleague at the Senior Secondary level, Mr. Kpenu Peter for providing the trophies for the winning houses, further decried the absence of a library, classrooms and accommodation for staff.

Four houses namely Wifa, Wikina, Dappa and Professor Nwideedu competed at the junior and intermediate levels in the competition which featured over 10 sports.

Purple colored Dappa House were overall winners with a total of 368 points. They were closely followed by yellow shirted Wifa House with 358 points while red colored Prof Nwideedu House and pink shirted Wikina House finished 3rdand 4th with 344 points and 313 points respectively. There was also invitational relay, parents, staff and old boys' races.

Interestingly, Chairman of the occasion, Pastor Jerry Needam, an old boy who graduated in 1985, won the old boys race beating five others in a time of 30 seconds to breast the tape.
