A First Class Oba Rubbished The Partisanship Of Ooni Of Ife And The Likes
The role of some traditional rulers in Nigeria politics is not what is considered ideal, here we have traditional rulers who are partisans and consequently disintegrates the value attached to the traditional institution in Nigeria. Recently, President Ebele Jonathan pay a political visit to the traditional rulers in Osun state, Just like Ooni of Ife did for many wealthy aspirants in the past, he invited some traditional rulers in Osun State to give traditional blessing to Ebele Jonathan.
The prominent Obas in Yoruba land has considered such ugly scene as obsequiousness and uncalled for. Orangun of Ila, Akinrun of Ikirun, Olobu of Ilobu, Ataoja of Osogbo, Aragbiji of Iragbiji and other highly reserved traditional institutions in Osun state have berated the barefaced Obas involved that they have only went further to disgrace what the traditional institutions stand for in Africa.
“The traditional institutions are custodian of culture and tradition and the interest of every interest group in the country is expected to be protected by it,” says one of the prominent and distinguished Oba in Osun State. He stretched that it is fraud and condemn-able for group considered as traditional leaders of all political and non-political groups to take a side without any convincing reason or public interest. This is considered an uncultured attitude exhibited by the persons erroneously considered as traditional leaders but doesn't see their stool as something more important than the three hundred dollars they got each for pointing (praying) their wooden walking stick to GEJ showering their traditional blessing on him.
The stool of Ooni of Ife is reduced to traditional yahoo yahoo stool through which the present occupiers ridiculously make dissolute money. It's laughable, the few political Oba scope-out the money with the names of all the traditional leaders in Osun State whereas only the few sycophant political Oba shared the money.
