Wife Of Edo Majority Leader Crusade Against Anti- Women Practics And Child Labour.

As part of activities in marking the international Women Day Celebration for the year 2015, Market women in Jettu in Etsako Central Local Government area, were among those present at the meeting organize by the Philip Shaibu Foundation to educate rural women on their inheritance rights as well as launch out and advocacy rally against child labour and girl child education. The wife of the Majority leader of the Edo State House of Assembly and convener Mrs Maryam Shaibu who took a sweep at the Nigerian Constitution concluded that women under the law in Nigeria are not well treated. She canvassed for the right of women to inherit property of their biological fathers' even though they might have been married. The practice of denial of inheritance right has caused untold hardship to women she lamented. She however frowned at the language of the constitution as it affects womanhood. Mrs Shaibu, while criticizing the provisions of the constitution as it relates to attack on women in different forms, identified harmful practices which include widowhood practices, female genital mutilation, forced marriage and others as threat to the lives of women in Nigeria.

The wife of the law maker also stress the need for effective parenting as a panacea for social vices. If children are adequately guided; the chance for them to go astray in their adult years are slim. She caution parent against children's access to social media which she said portend a great threat to effective parenting as children are exposed to unguided information that is capable of negatively influencing them. She pleaded with Nigerian women to use the international women's day celebration as a day to renew their commitment towards their girl child that is believe to be more vulnerable to the global challenge of gender violence .

While congratulating the Nigerian women for their contribution in the political stability of the nation in the past years, the wife of the Edo North APC senatorial candidate Mrs Monica Alimikhena appealed to all stakeholders to join and launch fresh war against child abuse. According to her, Child abuse is on the increase and we must rise as women to protect those right because our children are our future. 'Child upbringing is not a one man affairs, it is a community responsibility' The wife of the senatorial hopeful, condemn all forms of child labour saying that child labour is a social malice and wanton subjection. It is a crime against humanity and a violation of the child right. Mrs Alimikhena who said children are entitle to their childhood also use the international women's day celebration to call for the participation of more women in politics in order for the nation to have more focused and purposeful leadership.
