SAN FRANCISCO, February 11, (THEWILL) – Scores of rampaging Boko Haram gunmen Wednesday met their death in Gamboru town in Ngala local government area of Borno State as they were routed by Chadian troops operating under the multi-regional task force, stationed in the area.

Just as many of the gunmen were killed, many others were also arrested by the troops who also recovered some Hilux vehicles and armoured tanks from the insurgents.

A local resident of Gamboru who fled the area said he received a call from his brother in Fotokol in Cameroun who told him that the Chadian troops in Gamboru killed many Boko Haram gunmen in the town, arrested some and recovered some Hilux vehicles and armoured personnel carriers.

According to the resident, “the insurgent who came at about 4am on Wednesday tried to invade the Chadian troops base but met the soldiers who were at alert as they acted promptly and killed scores of the insurgents.”

The local source, craving anonymity, told THEWILL that “from the way the Chadian troops are dealing with the insurgents, if Nigerian, Cameroonian and Nigerien troops will maintain the same tempo, very soon, the Boko Haram insurgency will be brought to an end.”

Meanwhile, troops of the Nigerian Army and members of the youth vigilante popularly known as Civilian JTF have arrested 40 suspected Boko Haram gunmen disguising as herdsmen near Ngom village of Mafa local government area of the state.

A civilian JTF member, Ibrahim Garba, who disclosed this to THEWILL, said the insurgents had attempted to enter Maiduguri but were repelled and arrested by the youth vigilante who were backed by the Nigerian Army.

And in a related development, Boko Haram gunmen killed seven people when they invaded Gajiganna market in Magumeri local government area of the state.

A driver Mallam Muhammadu Isa who disclosed this to THEWILL, said the gunmen came at about 8:30 am on Tuesday when people were arriving the daily village market. He said the insurgents shot sporadically, killing seven persons.

According to him, “The terrorists after killing the people also carted away food stuffs such as beans, millet and other household material before they left unchallenged.”

Isa added that one of their drivers who came from Maiduguri and six others were killed, stressing that surprisingly, trading activities at the market still went on after the killings as the remains of the victims were taken away by some villagers for burial .
