Attack On Candidate Yayi: Lagos APC Wants Police To Do Their Job
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has alerted the
nation that unless the Police and other Security Agencies stand up to do
their duties to the fatherland, hoodlums and desperate politicians may
unleash mayhem to Lagosians”
In a press statement issued in Lagos on Sunday, February 1 2015 the Lagos
State APC Publicity Secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe said that yesterday January
31 2015 Mr Segun Adewale, the PDP Senatorial Candidate for Lagos West took
armed thugs and supporters to the Ikeja office of All Progressives
Congress Senatorial Candidate, Solomon Adeola Olamilekan alias Yayi, fired
shots into the office and in the process damaged the rear windscreen of
Yayi's Toyota Land Cruiser and other property within the complex.
“We have witnessed this awful display of impunity and lawlessness when PDP
thugs and supporters attacked APC faithfuls in Agege, and shot dead a
member of our party. The other day at Mosan Okunola LCDA grassroot
supporters of our Governorship Candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode who were on a
door to door campaigns were attacked leaving more than 10 vehicles damaged
and many wounded.”
“The latest attack on our candidate, Yayi and his supporters in his office
is yet another assault that needs to be investigated and culprits brought
to justice especially when Segun Adewale has admitted that he went to
Yayi's office to complain about the removal of his campaign materials.”
“The questions we are asking are: “What on earth is driving this
frightening impunity being exhibited by the PDP in Lagos? What on earth
will make Segun Adewale to muster the temerity and audacity to lead gunmen
including the police to Yayi's office without caring a hoot? Who is
beating the drums for PDP in Lagos? What is the police doing? Is it only
the PDP that has a monopoly of violence here in Lagos? What does PDP want
in Lagos?
The Party says “It may be compelled to find ways to defend and protect its
teeming supporters if the police and other security agencies cannot
guarantee security of lives and property at a time like this.”
The party says “It is asking the smart and courageous Lagosians to make
use of their phones and cameras to record such open blatant display of
lawlessness and brigandage to help us to track down these horrible
offenders.”
“We appeal to all Lagosians especially our teeming supporters to remain
calm and courageous in the face of these provocations. Crushing defeat is
staring PDP in the face all over Nigeria and Lagos and this desperation is
understandable. PDP cannot go down without a fight and they may decide to
pull down the house. We must not allow them to do so.”
