APC presidential candidate holds minute of silence, renews security vows to nation
The Presidential campaign train of the All Progressive's Congress (APC) moved today 10 January, 2015 to Anambra and Enugu states – with the candidate, Muhammadu Buhari joined by his running mate, Yemi Osinbajo on the campaign trail.
The contestants have spent since Tuesday, 6th January, crisscrossing the South East and South South region of the country, visiting states such as Rivers State, has since moved on to Cross River, Imo, Delta, Edo, Bayelsa and Ebonyi through the course of the week.
Today, the delegation started off with a trip to Awka, Anambra where they were received by Senator Chris Ngige, after which they paid a courtesy call to to the Obi of Awka, Gibson Nwosu—one of the first recruits into the Nigerian Air Force. The APC and his entourage also met with the Anglican Archbishop of Awka Diocese, Right Reverend Alexander Chibuzo Ibezim, at which point a minute's silence was observed for the victims of the Boko Haram attack on Baga, Borno State.
The next stop was Okpara Stadium in Enugu where Buhari and Osinbajo were welcomed by a large and vociferous crowd.
Speaking at the event in Enugu, the Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, said Muhammadu Buhari is coming to stabilise the nation, calling him a blessed man. He challenged the APC presidential candidate to create another state for the South-East, complete the 2nd Niger bridge, and the Aba-Ikot Ekpene road should he become President.
In his remarks, Muhammadu Buhari restated his commitment to secure Nigeria, restart industries, reduce unemployment, and also called for those present to collect their Permanent Voters Cards, come out to vote, and make their votes count.
Buhari also said, “If Nigeria does not kill corruption, corruption will kill Nigeria,” and described Boko Haram's terror campaign as “anarchy that must be dealt with”, pointing to the defeat of the Maitatsine in his first spell as President, as well as the repelling of Chadian soldiers during his time as General Officer Commanding, as proof his commitment to defeating enemies of Nigeria.
Also present at the rally was Ogbonnaya Onu, the first governor of Abia State, and former Ekiti State governor, Niyi Adebayo.
The campaign resumes on Monday.
