Army Slams Total Ban On Vehicular Movement In Maiduguri

SAN FRANCISCO, December 31, (THEWILL) – The Nigerian Army has slammed a two-day total ban on all vehicular movement in Maiduguri and its environs.

The Army, in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said no vehicular or animal movement are allowed between Thursday and Friday, stressing that the 7 Division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri had to impose the sanction to forestall the breach in security in its area of operations.

According to the statement, “The Federal Government has declared Thursday 1st January 2015 and Friday 2nd January as public holiday to commemorate New year and Eid el Maulud celebrations in view of the security situation in Borno State which has remains fluid and unpredictable.

“The 7th division of the Nigerian Army Maiduguri wishes to imposed total ban on vehicular movement within its area of responsibility from 6am on Thursday 1st January 2015 to 6pm on Friday 2nd January 2015.”

The spokesman of the 7 Army Division, Usman, maintained that “vehicular movement by animal (horses, etcetera), bicycles, motorcycles, tri-cycles and motor vehicles are totally banned in the state during the specified period,”

He added that the restriction was informed by the need to ensure adequate protection of lives and property of law abiding citizens of Borno State throughout the period.

The statement advised residents of the state to report any suspicious movement of persons or vehicles around their environment to the nearest security agencies.
