Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson has attributed the relative peace and security in State to the very best of military personnel and the calibre of committed and dedicated membership of the state security council.

The Governor, who stated this at the 22nd State Security Council meeting at the Government House in Yenagoa, described Bayelsa as very fortunate to have such disciplined and dedicated individuals in its security council, noting that, their performance has been productive and satisfactory.

He used the opportunity to formally welcome the newly appointed Chairman of the Bayelsa State Traditional Rulers' Council and Amayanabo of Twon Brass, King Alfred Diete Spiff, as well as the new State Director of Security Services and the new Commanding Officer, Mobility Command, Nigerian Air Force, Yenagoa and urged them to bring their wealth of experience to bear on the task of providing adequate peace and security in the state.

In his words: “You are not just security chiefs and law enforcement agents, you are advisers, you are supposed to lay at our disposal, all the experience you have acquired in the course of your very distinguished service to your country.

“Here in this council, we have a tradition of robust, open, frank and friendly debates on issues and sharing of ideas; that is why we are able to turn around the security situation that was very bad at the time we came in”

Speaking on the purpose and outcome of the meeting, Commodore Ime Ekpa, who represented the commander of the Joint Task Force, JTF, said the meeting reviewed the general security situation in the state, noting that, Bayelsa remains one of the most peaceful states in the Country.

According to him, the various security agencies in the state will continue to patrol the nooks and crannies to check the influx of illegal arms into the state as well ensure that cases of robbery and piracy on the waterways are eliminated.

Commodore Ekpa gave an assurance that, all the gunboats from the Navy and Army will be deployed to use ensure that, the ugly development of sea piracy and other related crimes are brought to an end before the 2015 general elections.

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, Valentine Ntomchukwu corroborated the JTF commander's explained that, the council took a postmortem of the last weekend's PDP ward congress and the security threats to the forthcoming general elections in the state, with a view to finding lasting solutions to them.

The State Police Boss, however, stated that, the security council will continue to create an enabling environment for people go about their lawful duties unmolested.
