 …….as Amina Winfred wins Otukpo ladies open 2014 President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has expressed optimism that with the current improvement in the game of golf, Nigeria will soon produce world class golfers who will be pride of the African continent. Presenting the overall winner trophy to Amina Winfred of IBB International Golf Club, Abuja at the just concluded 2nd edition of Otukpo Ladies Open, 2014 held in Otukpo Golf and Country Club, Akpegede, Otukpo, Benue State at the weekend, Senator Mark said the tempo will continue to soar in the quest to dominate the golfing community in the world.

Senator Mark spoke through his wife, Helen who is the Lady Captain of the Otukpo Golf and Country club and host of the ladies open.

Expressing satisfactions with the level of improvement compared to the last edition of the tournament, Senator Mark noted that with the fully equipped golf academy and competent trainers in the Otukpo golf club, “we are determined to make the game of golf a major sporting event in the country. “It is not only the fun that it (Golf) brings but the basic fact that it unites us. In this year's tournament, golfers across the country participated. We have played over two days, some won while some tried but should try harder next time in order to be rewarded. “We are not leaving any stone unturned in this campaign. This year's edition, professionals were introduced which is a great innovation. It is only here in Otukpo golf club that golfers play with no fees. This is to encourage our youths to perform better.”

He congratulated the winners in various categories and urged them to “always dream to be a better golfers . This is a platform in which you can be a success in every ramification.” Major winners at the 2nd Edition of Otukpo Ladies Open 2014 includes; Best Gross, Amina Winfred of IBB International Golf Club, Abuja; Best Net, Osinachi E. of Air Assault, Port Harcourt; Veteran Category, Sokpo A. of Makurdi Golf club among others.
