The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP has again been commended for upholding the decision of the State chapter of the PDP to zone the 2015 governorship to Eket Senatorial District.

The Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District Assembly a foremost socio-political group in the state in a statement said the sealing of this position by the national leadership of the party has brought about relief, excitement and joy on the faces of the teaming party members in the state and as further projected the PDP as the only truly democratic party in Africa.

The group which comprises opinion leaders, women and youth groups and other stakeholders from the 12 Local Government Areas making up Eket Senatorial District, maintained that zoning or rotation had existed as a policy of the ruling party since the advent of democracy in Nigeria in 1999 and has helped promote peace, unity and a sense of belonging among the various sections of the State in particular and the country at large.

The group commended the national chairman of the party Alhaji Adamu Muazu on the excellent manner he has piloted the affairs of the party since his emergence earlier this year, expressing the belief that his style will be crowned by an overwhelming success of the party across the country in the 2015 general elections.

The Assembly also congratulated President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on his emergence as the flagbearer of the party based on the policy of first refusal as practiced in other world democracies, maintaining that Jonathan's re-emergence will strengthen democracy in Nigeria and sustain the level of development attained by his administration in the country.

The Eket Senatorial District Assembly lauded Governor Godswill Akpabio for throwing his support to justice, fairness and equity, a disposition that has greatly accounted for the overwhelming achievements recorded since assumption of office in May, 2007.

The statement endorsed by the Chairman of the Assembly, Rt Hon Chief Nduese Essien and Secretary Obong Amaete A. Ntuk appealed to aspirants from the other two senatorial districts to respect the decision of the State and national working committee of the party and to rather focus on Eket Senatorial District to ensure the emergence of a focused, seasoned, experienced and humble successor to lead the state to greater heights come 2015.

“We wish to assure that whoever emerges from our senatorial district shall be a selfless and an all embracing Governor of Akwa Ibom State, and not a Governor of Eket Senatorial District; and shall therefore be under obligation to consolidate on the uncommon transformation programme of the present administration which has seen to an even spread of development projects across the state,” the Assembly concluded.
