Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State says, his administration blazed the trail by granting financial autonomy to the State Judiciary, because of its pivotal role to the development and building of a stable of democracy and other critical sectors of the State's economy.
The Governor, who stated this at a dinner marking the opening of the 2014/15 Legal Year at Banquet hall, Government House in Yenagoa, noted that “government will continue to support the Judiciary in terms of executing capital projects in spite of dwindling resources.
“The State Judiciary has the capacity to attain the highest level of Judicial excellence and compete favourably with its counterparts nationwide.
“Today is a special day in the legal calendar, the state government's decision to host the legal year is a silent way ofrevolutionalizing the judicial system”.
Commending the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kate Abiri for her firm and purposeful leadership of the Bayelsa State Judiciary, Governor Dickson remarked that, the workers in the temple of Justice need to be celebrated and honoured.
In her remarks, the Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Justice Kate Abiri, described this year's legal year as the best, because of the governors support in making the Judiciary one of the best in the country.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Kemasuode Wodu in his opening remarks appreciated Governor Seriake Dickson for encouraging the dispensation of Justice without fear, favour or ill will.
High point of the legal year was the conferment of honour to distinguished legal luminaries, including Justices Niki Toby, Francis Tabai, Stanley Alagoa and a posthumous award to late Justices Koripamo Ngbuku, Emmanuel Igoniwari and Peters Amain.
