SAN FRANCISCO, October 13, (THEWILL) -The apex Ijaw youth organisation, Ijaw Youth Council, (IYC) Worldwide has set up a disciplinary committee to penalise erring members of the council after report of alleged suspension of the president of the council, Comrade Udengs Eradiri, turned out to be a hoax.

Reacting to the alleged suspension in a statement issued on Sunday signed by the spokesman of the group, Barr. Eric Omare, and made available to THEWILL,   the group said  it has set up a committee to discipline those responsible for the action.

IYC said that Comrade Udengs Eradiri remains the president of the council and therefore called on the general public to disregard the purported suspension of the IYC President, while efforts are being taken to restore total discipline and sanity to the Council.

The statement said; “The National Leadership of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide has received several calls and inquiries from members of the public from within and outside Nigeria relating to the malicious and misleading information to the effect that the President of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), Worldwide, Comrade Udengs Eradiri,  has been suspended.

“For the benefit of members of the public, the IYC National leadership wishes to state; That the information relating to the suspension of the President of the IYC, Comrade Udengs Eradiri, by a group of persons is baseless, malicious and intended to cause confusion in Ijaw land and the Niger Delta by enemies of the Ijaw nation.'

Maintaining that Eradiri remains the President of the IYC, Worldwide, the statement  said IYC is a responsible organisation administered in accordance with its Constitution. It also stressed that the IYC Constitution clearly provides the procedure for disciplining  erring officers.

The group therefore mandated its lawyers  led by its National Legal Adviser, Barr. Ekine Egbelekro,  to formally write for the retraction of  the conflicting and misleading news relating to the leadership status of the IYC.

'We call on the general public to disregard the purported suspension of the IYC president while efforts are being taken to restore total discipline and sanity to the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), worldwide starting with the setting up of Disciplinary Committee to discipline erring members and officers of the Council and inauguration of the IYC Parliament on Tuesday, the 14th of October, 2014 in Rivers State,” the statement added.
