Rivers 2015: Andoni Elders Back Maj Anyanya
Royal fathers of Andoni kingdom in Rivers State have backed bid by the chairman, National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Major Lancelot Anyanya (rtd) to contest the governorship of the state.
The royal fathers made the endorsement Tuesday during Anyanya's formal declaration in Port Harcourt.
Leading the traditional rulers, King Okuruket Nnabiget said his chiefs found Anyanya's aspiration exciting, and promised to support the aspirants on a “first come, first accepted” basis.
He said, “We are here to identify with his aspirations. Though we are not politicians but will support any politician who wants to aspire to the exalted seat. This is the first time an Andoni man is aspiring and for that reason, we are greatly impressed.”
He commend the NOSDRA boss for seeking royal fathers, and pledged “our unalloyed support at all times”.
Responding, Anyanya lauded the royal fathers for being the conscience of society, and pledged his commitment to the overall interest of Obolo people and Rivers State at large.
He described the event as a gathering “to make public what we have done in private and to tell you that I am about to embark on a great journey”.
The aspirant promised to draw on the experience of the royal fathers and the diverse cultures in the area to uplift Rivers State. He pledged to set the state on the path of greatness in the face of what he described as the “numerous challenges confronting the people”.
He said, “Rivers State is destined to be the leader among the comity of states. The reality is that we have not achieved that greatness, we have also not achieved the peak of our excellence.
“We have come to give our people a new direction whether you choose to live in the fishing port or city, you can be great that is our message”,
Anyanya said he recognized the significance of leadership driven by mission and passion, and promised to serve the people of Rivers State with diligence.
