BEVERLY HILLS, September 29, (THEWILL) - President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar have commiserated with the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, and the people of Kano on the death of the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Tijani Hashim.

Hashim died inside his Abuja residence on Monday at the age of 82. He was buried this evening according to Islamic tradition at a Kano cemetery.

'President Jonathan joins them in mourning Alhaji Tijani who served his people admirably over many years as a regional minister in the first republic and very senior member of the Kano Emirate Council.

'The President believes the eminent Kano prince and highly revered community leader will always be remembered and honoured for his laudable contributions to peace, stability and progress in his community and country,' a Presidency statement said Monday.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said that the Kano Emirate Council has lost a prized asset with the demise of the Galadiman Kano.

The former Vice President said in a condolence message by his media office in Abuja on Monday that Hashim's influence had become so profound that he had earned an oracular father figure in the emirate before his passage.

The Turaki Adamawa paid tribute to Hashim for having lived a fulfilled life spent on community service and in peace-building in the Kano Emirate.

“The people of Kano have lost a prized asset, who spent most of his life and times pursuing peace and communal harmony among his people. As the Galadiman Kano, he was a strong confidant and adviser to the Emir of Kano and was the strong backbone of the late Emir Ado Bayero's reign and contributed immensely to the love and respect that characterised that era,” Atiku said.
