Ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Yobe State, a group of politicians from the southern senatorial zone of the state  has urged  incumbent governor Ibrahim Gaidam to forget about re- contesting and back the quest to shift  power to Yobe North Senatorial zone.

The group who are all members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)and led by Hon. Sani Usman Awu also threatened to flaw  the governor at the party's primaries if and when he insists on re – contesting his seat.

Speaking a‎t a press conference Thursday  in Maiduguri, the group leader requested governor Gaidam not to allow him self to be disgraced at the party primaries, urging him to  humbly supporting power Shift to Yobe North; a zone that has never produced a governor since creation of the state in 1991.

According to Awu, there is need to ensure equity in the terms of representation in a democratic setting adding that ” both the East Zone where Gaidam hails  from and the southern zone had all produced governors of the state at different times with the exception of the Northern   zone “.

‎” in addition to the above considerations, it remains a fact that since Yobe was created, all governors and their deputies came from Zones other  than the Yobe North Senatorial Zone; an evidence of lopsidedness that must be corrected in 2015.

“Consultations carried out among a greater number of the Stakeholders of the APC in Yobe South Senatorial Zone, made it necessary to give this press conference in response to the call, by the Concern Indigenes of Yobe North Senatorial Zone, for support on the zoning of the Gubernatorial seat to their zone in the 2015 Election.

“In recognition of the fact that this request is a matter of rights not privilege, we the members of the stakeholders, on behalf of good people of Yobe South Senatorial Zone, hereby declared our unequivocal and unalloyed support to the yearning of our brothers in the north for the shifting of the gubernatorial seat to their zone in the coming 2015 election.

“We would also like to emphasis that this action of ours is not for any interest other that the support of the ethics of our great Party, the APC, an indeed our beloved Governor, Alh. (Dr.) Ibrahim Geidam, for peaceful co-existence among people, fairness and justice. Another important step of highest consideration is that the Governor, we learned, is considering the call/request of the People of Yobe North. This unproclaimed will/intention by His Excellency is highly commendable.

“It is no more ambiguous that Nigerians, and in particular, the worst affected part, the Northeast, in terms of insecurity, are tired of the misrule of the PDP, and therefore are prepared to use all necessary legal means to dislodge them, especially the presidential contest, because of the evident constitutionality issues therein. In the light of this, we also like to call on His Excellency, Dr. Ibrahim Geidam, to lead this struggle by throwing his weight in this course for the achievement of the goal of the entire nation, and the APC, and history will remember him on this anticipated sacrifice. His continued silence on this might be misconstrued. “‎ the group said in their statement
