Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the demise of the President General, League of Imams and Alfas in Yoruba land, Edo and Delta States, and the Chief Imam of Oshogbo, Sheikh Mustafa Olayiwola Ajisafe.

The former Vice President, who is also the Turaki Adamawa in a press statement personally signed by him on Wednesday, described the late Chief Imam as, “a man of profound knowledge and an epitome of modesty.”

The statement reads: “The death of Sheikh Mustafa Ajisafe is a big loss to the Muslim community in Yoruba land and all Muslims in the country.

“Imam Ajisafe was one cleric who was imbued with profound knowledge of the scriptures, and had an aura shrouded in simplicity. He was an epitome of modesty.

“What was more spectacular about his nature is the manner in which he promoted religious harmony between Muslims and Christians, as evidenced by the peaceful co-existence of faithful of both beliefs in Oshogbo and other places in Yoruba land.

“My condolences go the Muslim Ummah in Yoruba land, the Osun State government, family and dependants of the late Chief Imam of Oshogbo. I also pray the almighty Allah grants his soul entry to Firdaus.
