Can Nigeria Beat Argentina?

Spain is unarguably the current world champions. That singular fact is enough to cow any team into playing a second fiddle to the Spaniards. However, the Netherlands understood that they were playing a team that was equally constituted and not super humans hence they trashed the much-respected defending champions 5-1.

Meanwhile, the same Netherland and Spain met in the finals of the last world cup in 2010.Netherland decided to unleash their four year pent-up anger on Spain. In that opening match,Netherland not only defeated Spain but also humiliated them with four goal difference with each goal representing each of the four years that Netherland nursed their anger for losing the 2010 world cup trophy to Spain with only one goal.

In view of the above,June 25th 2014 is another day where history will be made. It is exactly 20 years that Argentina sent Super Eagles packing on 25th June 1994 in the 1994 USA world cup.

It is very pathetic that many African teams in the ongoing world cup are either at the verge of being sent home while some have already crashed out of the soccer fiesta. Super Eagle players should be aware that the last match we had with Bosnia would have ended in draws had the referee not made that mistake of disallowing the clean goal by the Bosnian played. Also, even the circumstances that led to our scoring that our only goal, some referees might have disallowed that our goal hence the match would end in one goal against us.

On this historic day, they are playing with one of the best football teams, and so what? Super Eagle should play the ball and not playing second fiddle to Argentina. They should play with passion and not making Messi a demi-god as they made Iranian team a big team in the opening match by drawing with Iran hence Iranian president celebrated that match because if his country could draw with an African champion that means that the sky would be their limit in the ongoing world cup. Nigerian team should play with the patriotism and zeal of the dutch team since Iran can still come out with surprises today. Today will either repeat the history of 25th June,1994 in the USA 1994 world cup where Nigeria lost to Argentina with one goal or that of 3rd August 1996 in the Atlanta 1996 Olympic game where Argentina lost to Nigeria with one goal.
