Scores killed by unknown gunmen in Kaduna

Unknown gunmen suspected to members of the deadly Boko Haram Islamist group on Monday killed 21 people in Fadan Karshi village of Sanga Local Government area of Kaduna State.

The attack however also affected Ankpon village in Nandu district and Kabamu village in Fadan Karshi all of Numana Chiefdom of the local government area.

According to reports, the attack which began Monday night lasted till Tuesday morning as villagers were said to have abandoned their houses and ran to nearby villages

Chairman of the local government, Mr Emmanuel Adamu, was quoted as saying that the victims of the attack included women and children.

According him, 21 people were killed in Fadan Kashi while 17 were wounded in Nandu villages. He called for calm from the people of the area.

The State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Aminu Lawan, however said that the casualty figure was much lower than the figure ascribed to the chairman of the local government.

“I am not aware of any incident in Sanga where such a number of People were killed,” he said

The state governor in a statement signed by his Director General Media and publicity, Ahmed Maiyaki described the act as a 'provocative attempt by some unpatriotic people to cause confusion and unrest in the area'.

Governor Ramalan Yero condoled with families of victims of the unwarranted attack on innocent citizens in the area and called for calm.
