PSC promotes rtd police commissioner to AIG, elevates others

The Police Service Commission has promoted two Commissioners of Police to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Those affected include Chris Olakpe, the immediate past Plateau State Commissioner of Police who  retired from the Force last week and Grace Okudo were elevated to the new rank at the last plenary meeting of the commission on Monday.

The promotions are with effect from june 4 and 9, 2014 respectively.

A statement by the PSC Assistant Director, Public Relations and Media, Ferdinand Ekpe in Abuja on Tuesday, said two Superintendents of Police, Nyong Enefiok, and  Offu Ukereke; Deputy Superintendent, Eteng Bassey and Assistant Superintendent, Mohammed  Kashim were dismissed at the end of the plenary meeting while an ASP was compulsorily retired for offences against  police discipline.

The commission also treated 32 disciplinary cases involving Senior Policemen while six officers were reduced in rank.

Ten officers were severely reprimanded, while others were reprimanded or issued Letters of Advice.

Similarly, Seven Deputy Commissioners of Police were promoted to the substantive rank of Commissioners of Police. They are Victor Ojo; Elias Wayemeru; Paul  Okafor;  Henry Fadairo; Stella Udosen; Felicia Noelle and  Ovie Oyokomino.

The Commission also elevated 12 Assistant Commissioners of Police to Deputy Commissioners of Police, while 21 Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted to Assistant Commissioners of Police.

Equally, 27 Superintendents were promoted to CSPs and 15 Deputy Superintendents were promoted to Superintendents.

One Hundred and Twenty Nine Assistant Superintendents of Police were elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendents while 20 Inspectors who were omitted during the last Inspectors promotion were promoted to ASPs.

The promotions of ASPs to CSPs are with effect from the February19, 2014, while the others are with effect from June 9, 2014.

The Commission equally deliberated on some disciplinary and legal appeal matters and took far-reaching decisions towards the effective administration of the Nigeria Police Force.

The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Mike  Okiro, while congratulating the newly promoted officers, enjoined them to redouble their efforts in the discharge of their assignments.

'He underlined the readiness of the Commission under his watch to discharge its mandate effectively and noted that deserving and hardworking officers would be elevated as at when due, while offences against Police Rules and Regulations would be sanctioned adequately if a transformed Nigeria Police Force of the 21st Century that is democratically inclined is to be realized,' the statement added.
