An loud explosion Thursday morning near Kurudu, less than 10 kilometres from Nyanya, sent residents into panic, as fears heightened that the army estate there came under attack.

The explosion threw fear-gripped residents of Kurudu and neighbouring towns like Jikwoyi and Karshiinto panic, even as they scampered for safety.

However, Pointblanknews.com gathered that the explosion came from the dynamites of Mangrovetech, an indigenous construction company blasting rocks on the ongoing Karshi-Apo road.

Army spokesman Nigerian Army, Brigadier-General Olajide Olaleye has since confirmed that the explosion was a “controlled blast” by a construction company, advising against panic.

However, an angry resident of Jikwoyi fumed about the failure to have given prior notice on the blasting.

“This are unusual times. And considering the proximity to Nyanya, one would have expected the authorities and the company to have given adequate notice that they were going to blast rocks.

“You needed to see how we all scampered for safety. And don't blame us, for today is Democracy day and anything is possible,” he flared.
