Netherlands boss is tipped to name RVP as Nemanja Vidic's replacement at Old Trafford.

Leading Dutch journalist Pascal Kamperman expects incoming Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal to make countryman Robin Van Persie the club's new captain.

Netherlands boss Van Gaal will officially take over at Old Trafford after this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

Current United captain Nemanja Vidic has agreed to join Serie A giants Inter Milan next month, while vice-skipper Patrice Evra is also expected to leave the Red Devils before the start of next season.

Kamperman thinks that Van Persie is the leading candidate to replace Vidic.

“Yeah I think so because they do have a good relationship,” Kamperman told Sky Sports http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/9313806/robin-van-persie-expected-to-be-louis-van-gaals-captain-at-manchester-united when asked if he thought Van Persie would captain United under Van Gaal next season.

“At the beginning when Van Gaal took over as the head coach of the Dutch national team they had to find their position a little bit. But after that it went really well and Van Persie was very positive about him.

“When Van Persie was over here [in Holland] last month because of his injury they talked a lot about the World Cup and the way they like to play in Brazil. So yes, he does have a very good relationship with him.”

Van Persie has scored 41 goals in 82 senior international appearances for the Netherlands.

The 30-year-old was the top European goalscorer in World Cup qualifying, netting 11 times.

The Netherlands reached Brazil 2014 with ease, taking 28 points from a possible 30.

Van Gaal's side are unlikely to progress so easily in the finals though, having been drawn in Group B along with defending champions Spain, Chile and Australia.

If the Netherlands finish second in their group, they will probably meet hosts Brazil in round two.
