OAU Public Administration Fyb' Outstanding Week

Last week was a joyful week for the final year students of the department of Public Administration, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife when they celebrated the end of their academic years as undergraduates in grand style. The class named 'Knights '13' symbolises warriors who have fought through thick and thin, weathering every storm and finally emerged victors hence the appelation. This class ought to have graduated November - December last year but the FG/ASUU strike delayed it.

The 3-day event started with the costume day popularly known as Aro day, when the students regardless of the fact that they had a test came out in various comic attires depicting different vocations such as doctors, nurses, surgeons, administrators, sportpersons, pregnant women, primary and secondary school students, village headmasters to mention but few. The day was funfilled as they took pictures and made merry.

The second day was the Ankara day and traditional night. On this day, the students having appeared glamourously in different styles having earlier purchased a bright blue coloured Ankara fabric beautifullly sown into gowns, skirts and blouse, oleku while the male students also displayed creative styles like agabada etc. They also took pictures to mark the occasion afterwhich everyone dispersed to converge again later at night. The night saw the students displaying their various cultural wears showing where each one originated from. It was indeed a night of culture as rich traditional music was supplied to the amazement of all by a classmate called Olaiya Olatunde alias Tuns Global, there was also lots to eat and drink while they danced in joy giving Glory to God .

The third and last day was sign off day signifying signing out officially as undergraduate students from the department having attended the last lecture on the campus. The students arriving one after the other in their white shirts and markers signed their names, nicknames or signature on each other. They were all excited, sharing hugs, finding spaces to sign on the shirts till no space were left and the once white shirts were stained in various colours.

Speaking with the President, National Association of Public Administration Students, OAU, Mr. Oyeleye Oderemi said, I feel excited having gone through OAU stress for over 4years and a school where to fail a subject you have to read. I am going to laminate this tshirt if possible as a sign of remembrance. Our set on this campus, we have proven to be a diligent administrators and ready to build the administrative mechanism of this nation with utmost piorities efficiently and effectively. They caped the day with music at the Faculty of Administration basement where they also sent shout outs to their friends and families, they expressed gratitude to the Head of Department, Dr. Ayo Adesopo and all other lecturers for having being loving and caring parents to them all through the years. They screamed in loud voices "WE LOVE YOU" in appreciation to the lecturers, they also echoed the school anthem in unison while their junior colleagues and colleagues from the departments of Management and Accounting and International Relations keenly watched. The students eventually moved the merriment to the new bukateria on campus where the party continued.
