Breaking News: Efcc Storm Bayelsa State, Arrests Accountant General, State Treasurer And Others

Information coming out of Bayelsa State and confirmed by the EFCC indicate that agents from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission [EFCC] stormed Bayelsa to arrest associates to the Bayelsa Governor.

As gathered, the EFCC agents arrived Bayelsa State yesterday evening from Abuja. The Agents had come to arrest the Finance Commissioner, the Director of Treasury, the present and former Accountant General. They are to pick them up and up and transport them to Abuja today [Wednesday]. The Finance Commissioner was said to have escaped through thew window of his house. An EFCC source indicated that the commissioner has been declared wanted.

Authoritative information has it that the officials were picked up over the movement of N500million from the state treasury to a private account. According to an EFCC source, the N500million was transfered by the state governor during the last week of February 2010. Accounding to the source, the EFCC is interesting in the identity of the owner of the said private bank account.

Meanwhile in a related development, the Governor of Bayelsa, Timipre Sylva was reported to have held a closed door meeting with the militant groups in Bayelsa against the up coming gubernatorial elections. The said meeting took place on Monday at his office in Bayelsa. According to a soucre in Bayelsa, "that was why he did not attend the meeting in Delta State".
